How do I update my business hours everywhere?

By Humfrid ·

The short answerChange them on your website first, since it's the one place you fully control, then on your Google Business Profile, then on your social pages and other listings, in one sitting. For a holiday or a short closure, use Google's special hours instead of changing your regular hours. The next day, check that each change went through. With Humfrid, the website part is one text, and Humfrid writes the Google post about your new hours for you to post.

Customers plan their visit around the hours they read. If your website says you’re open till 6 and you closed at 4, that’s a wasted trip and a customer who may not try again. Getting your hours right everywhere is a short job once you know the order, and the order starts with your own website. With Humfrid, that first step is one text.

Where do my business hours actually show up?

In more places than most owners remember. The usual ones are your website, your Google Business Profile (what people see on Google Search and Google Maps), your Facebook and Instagram pages, and any directory or listing you’ve ever filled in.

Then there are the offline spots: the sign on your door, your voicemail greeting, the footer of your emails, and any booking app that shows open times. Write all of them down once. That list is the hardest part of this job, and you only make it once.

Why should I change my website first?

Because your website is the one place you fully control, and Google may look at it to decide what’s true about you.

Google gathers information about businesses from different sources, like user reports and licensed content. When someone suggests an edit to your profile that needs your review, you have 4 days to accept or reject it. If you don’t respond, Google may publish the change when it’s supported by other publicly available information, such as your business website. A website with the right hours backs you up there. One with old hours can work against you.

Google also says businesses with complete and accurate info are more likely to show up in local search results, and its guidelines ask you to provide your regular customer-facing hours of operation. Accurate hours, the same everywhere, are part of that.

How Humfrid does this for you

With Humfrid, the first and most important step, your website, is one text. Hours, prices and contact details can be changed any time, by text, with no login, no app and no computer. You send the change the way you’d tell a friend:

  • “Closed Monday for Labor Day.”
  • “Summer hours start Monday, open till 7.”
  • “We’re open Sundays now, 10 to 2.”

A voice note works too. Humfrid updates your website, so the page Google may check your hours against says the right thing.

Humfrid also helps you set up your Google Business Profile and keep it complete, and writes the post about your holiday hours, or a reply to a review, for you to post. The hours change on the profile itself is yours to make in Google’s own screens, with the steps below. Your phone number stays the same, and calls come straight to you.

If you don’t have a website yet, Humfrid builds it from a few texts, and you see it within a day, free for 14 days, with no setup fee and no contract.

How do I change my regular hours on Google?

Open your Business Profile, choose Edit profile, then Hours, and set your main hours. Google’s help page says to set your business’s main hours or mark it closed to tell customers when you’re open.

Your change doesn’t show instantly. Google says we review your changes before we update them live on your profile, and that edits usually take up to 10 minutes to review, but sometimes it can take up to 30 days. An edit can come back as Accepted, Pending or Not approved, and Google says it might not approve changes if it can’t confirm its accuracy. One more reason to have your website right first.

If part of your business keeps different hours, like a pickup window or a kitchen that closes early, Google says to set more hours for those rather than squeezing them into your main hours.

How do I set holiday hours on Google?

Use special hours. They change your hours for specific dates without touching your regular schedule, so there’s nothing to switch back.

On the same Hours screen, find Special hours, pick a date, set the hours or mark it closed, and save. According to Google, your special hours will appear to customers on Google only for the designated days. A few details matter:

If your business is seasonal, Google’s guidelines say to set your regular hours during the season and mark the business temporarily closed during the off-season, then set regular hours again when you reopen.

What’s a simple checklist for changing my hours?

Do it in one sitting, in this order:

  1. Decide the new hours and the date they start.
  2. Update your website, or text Humfrid the change.
  3. Update your Google Business Profile: main hours for a lasting change, special hours for a holiday or short closure.
  4. Update Facebook, Instagram and any other listings on your list.
  5. Change the door sign, your voicemail greeting and any booking app.
  6. The next day, check your Google profile’s edit status and look up your business on Google Maps the way a customer would.
  7. Before each official holiday, confirm your holiday hours on Google, even if nothing changes.

What if a customer tells me my hours on Google are wrong?

Look at your profile right away, the way a customer would, and fix what’s showing. You can always edit your hours yourself from Edit profile.

Then work out why it was wrong. Check whether special hours were set for that day, whether a suggested edit was published while you weren’t looking, and whether your website still shows the old hours. If the website is the culprit, fix it first, or text Humfrid the change, so the two agree and stay that way. A website that’s always right backs you up on Google.

Text Humfrid your business name, and you’ll see your website within a day.
