Do I need a website for my cleaning business?

By Humfrid ·

The short answerYes. Before someone gives a new cleaner their key or door code, they look that cleaner up, and your own website is where they decide you're the one to trust. It shows what each clean includes, the areas you serve, how your pricing works, your reviews and your insurance, and it lets a client book and pay a deposit without a phone call. Humfrid builds it from a few texts, live within a day, and you text every change between cleans.

Does a cleaning business need a website?

Yes. A cleaning client is handing you a key, a door code or a few hours alone in their home. Before they do that with someone new, they look you up, whether a neighbor gave them your name or they searched for house cleaning in their town. They want to see who you are before they let you in.

What they find in that minute decides whether they book. Your own website shows them a real business: what you clean, where you work, how you price, what other clients say and how to book. A listing on someone else’s site puts you next to every other cleaner in town. Your website is the one page that’s only you, where every referral, flyer and search should land. Humfrid builds it for you from a few texts, so you have one without giving up an evening.

It also works while you’re working. People sort out cleaning in the evening. Your website answers their questions at nine at night and takes the booking, and you see it when you’re done with the day’s homes.

What do people check before they book a cleaner?

They want to know you’ll do a good job, that you’re safe to let in, and what it will cost. Put these on your website:

  1. Each clean and what it includes. A standard clean, a deep clean, a move-in or move-out clean. List what each one covers: inside the oven, inside the fridge, baseboards, blinds, windows. A checklist ends the guessing.
  2. The areas you serve. Name the towns and neighborhoods. People scan for their own.
  3. Insurance and bonding, if you have them. If you’re insured, say so. If you’re bonded, say so. Never claim either if you aren’t.
  4. Reviews. What clients say about you, in their own words, with a link to your Google reviews.
  5. How your pricing works. By the size of the home, by the hour or a flat rate per clean, and what changes it.
  6. How to book. A booking page, a number to text, and how far ahead you’re booked.
  7. Recurring schedules. Weekly, every other week or monthly, and whether regulars get a better rate.
  8. What to expect on the day. Whether they need to be home, whether you bring supplies, and how you handle keys and pets.

Humfrid puts all of this on your website from your texts, and keeps it right when it changes.

How Humfrid helps a cleaning business

You text Humfrid your business name and answer a few quick questions: the cleans you offer, the towns you cover and how you price. Humfrid builds your website, live within a day. Nothing goes live without your OK; text back anything to change.

From then on, you change it the way you’d text a client:

  • “Add move-out cleans.”
  • “We now cover Oakland.”
  • “Fridays are full until March. Tuesdays still open.”

Photos and voice notes work too, with no app and no login. Your website takes online bookings, which you accept and manage by text, and online payments and deposits. It’s on your own .com, in your name and included, with your own number on it. It’s set up to be found on Google, Google Maps, ChatGPT and other AI answers, and you get a weekly report with your visitors and bookings. You also get your Google Business Profile posts and review replies written for you to post.

Humfrid’s top plan adds a review request after every clean, and remembers every client with a reminder when to follow up. On that plan, if you run a crew, your whole team can text Humfrid too, alone or in a group chat, and everyone can take bookings. You can see your website free for 14 days and pay only when you want it live on your own .com. There’s no contract, no setup fee and no charge per lead, and you cancel by text. How should I show my prices?

Show enough that a client can tell you fit their budget before they reach out. You don’t have to post one price for every home. A starting rate for each kind of clean, with the size of home it’s based on, answers the first question. Then say what moves it: a first clean, pets, extra bathrooms, add-ons.

If regulars pay less per clean, say so: it’s how a one-off deep clean becomes a client who books every other Friday. Keep the same numbers everywhere you’re listed, so nobody sees two prices for the same clean.

Can clients book and pay a deposit on my website?

Yes, and it saves you more time than almost anything else. Instead of five texts to find a day, a new client picks a time on your website and you accept it. With Humfrid, you accept and manage each booking by text. A deposit at booking holds the slot and makes a last-minute cancel less likely to leave a hole in your day. More on appointment deposits.

Write your policy right next to the booking button: how much is due at booking, how late a client can cancel or move a clean, and what happens if you arrive and can’t get in. A policy the client reads before they book is fair to both of you.

Do I need a license or insurance to clean homes?

Check with your state, your county and your city, because each sets its own rules. The U.S. Small Business Administration says the licenses and permits you need from the state, county, or city will depend on your business activities, and points you to your Secretary of State’s website for state rules and your local government’s website for the rest.

Insurance is a question you’ll hear. General liability insurance, in the SBA’s words, protects against financial loss as the result of bodily injury, property damage, medical expenses. In a home full of someone else’s things, that matters to a client. If you carry it, put it on your website where they’ll see it before they book.

My clients come from referrals. Why do I need a website?

Because a referral gives a client your name, not your prices, your schedule or a way to book. They look you up before they text, and your website turns that name into a booked clean instead of a “maybe next month.” And if you’re cleaning five homes a day, you have no time to learn a website builder. You don’t have to: Humfrid keeps your website up from your texts.

Should my cleaning business be on Google Maps too?

Yes, with your website as the link on your profile. Google names cleaning services as an example of a service-area business, a business that visits or delivers to customers directly but doesn’t serve customers at their business address. You can list up to 20 service areas. Humfrid helps you set up your profile and keep it complete, and writes its posts and review replies for you to post. Here’s how a business with no shop gets a Google profile.

Reviews help there. Google says prominence is partly based on how many websites link to your business and how many reviews you have. Ask every happy client for one, but don’t trade a discount for it: Google bans offering incentives, like free or discounted goods or services, in exchange for customers to post reviews.

Text Humfrid the cleans you offer and the towns you cover, and you’ll see your cleaning website within a day.
